The 9-Vjecare is the equivalent of an elementary school and middle school in the states (it translates to "the 9 year school"). There is only one in Bajram Curri and not only the kids from the city come but from nearby villages as well. The classes average about 45 kids per class. Since it is so small, they're forced to have a morning school and an afternoon school so that all the kids can go to lessons that day. The bashkia applied for a grant and got money to fund the construction of another 9-vjecare school in Bajram Curri. Construction started about 2 weeks ago and the school should be ready by next school year! I helped translate the 25ish page document to be sent to the capital to choose a construction company. I can see all of the construction right outside my bedroom window from my apartment. The school is directly behind the Gjimnas or highschool and they will share a courtyard once it is complete. There will also be another road constructed connecting the two major roads in Bajram Curri.
