The Gender and Development of Peace Corps Albania is making a documentary on "Gender Equality in the Workplace" and have asked for my help/input with the filming and editing. Emily and I will be in charge of interviewing people in the Northern part of Albania on their views and experiences in the workplace. So far I have done 4 interviews in Bajram Curri. Since they're all in Shqip I have only been able to translate one so far with my counterpart but hopefully this week we will do the other three. It is very different to sit through interviews in another language and not know the responses of the interviewees until later on.
Three of the ladies I interviewed so far work for the only running NGO (Non governmental organization) in Tropoje right now. They're current project is working with the Bajram Curri police department. They're spreading awareness of domestic violence here and pushing towards having a safe house in the city, as well as a counselor. This is a common problem in Albania, women who are facing domestic problems have no where to go or anyone to talk to and it just continues. They are very strong, hard working women. The other interview we've done was a director of a kindergarten in Bajarm Curri. She also spoke with us about working under communism.
Three lovely ladies that work for the "Human Rights & Democracy" NGO here in Bajram Curri. It's the only active NGO in all of Tropoje. |
